Le Cordon Bleu Food Photography
Food photography has the wonderful opportunity to tell a story and to evoke the viewer to desire the meal being presented. It should always have a simplicity and a prime focus on the food, with the environment adding a soft compliment to the image.
A successful culinary photograph can also capture the passion, dedication and mastery used when preparing the meal.
Helpful Tips
Capture the process - incorporating attention-to-detail, preparation and/or final touches.
Use various environments in the restaurant - the kitchen, the front of the house or even patio.
Available lighting - sunlight, shadows and reflections.
Try to show experience by incorporating context with a wider view and using props. (both front and back of the house)
Angle of view - over head, 3/4 views or even a lower angle.
Be very focused on the details in the image and diligent in wiping any unwanted crumbs or oil on the dishes.
Make sure everything in the photo helps to tell the story and not detract from it.
Use a good yet simple post production app like ‘Snapseed’ to finesse the final image. Use the app to enhance the colours and details, and to colour correct the overall image.
Experiment, try things and have fun.
